Bronze Sculpture and Figurine Care
Patima
Bronze is a copper alloy generally comprised of copper and a small amount of tin. Most Artists favor it's workability, strength and durability. Bronze naturally develops a greenish "patina" called verdigris which is pronounced "ver da gree". Patina is the natural reaction of bronze to air, humidity, and other environmental factors. Patina develops to varying degrees depending on environmental conditons.
Care and cleaning of Your Collectible Bronze Sculpture and Figurine
Bronze sculptures and figurines should be kept in a well ventilated areas away from excess heat, humidity, and damp or unventilated areas should be avoided. Sometimes the artist will apply or lacquer to keep the patina from changing.
Keep your collectible pieces as clean as possible. The degradation of the bronze surface comes from the accumulations of dust and dirt. Dust figurines with a soft white cloth or soft brush. Be careful not to rub too vigorously as you may break or bend any protuding features.
You should never use abrasive waxes/polishes, pads or chemicals on your bronze collectibles. Take care not to remove the natural or applied patina. doing so may damage the beauty and value of your bronze sculpture or figurine.
Bronze is a very durable medium enduring many years of beauty. The bronze patina is the most delicate part of your bronze sculpture or Figurine. May you enjoy your treasures for many years to come.
Cold-cast figurines, collectibles and sculptures are generally spray coated with clear polyurethane.
